Rat Pack Tribute Shows Are A Great Way To Bring Back The 60's

By Shane McConnell

In the early 1960's, there was no better definition of cool than the members of The Rat Pack. This group of performers was made up of the legendary Humphrey Bogart, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Peter Lawford. They famously appeared together in a number of movies and stage shows, including the award winning film Ocean's Eleven, and can now be seen in Rat Pack tribute shows.

Although other members are typically first to be associated with The Rat Pack, it actually centered around movie star Humphrey Bogart. In fact, it was Bogart's wife, Lauren Bacall, who actually gave the group of friends their name. After a night of partying in Vegas, Bacall looked at the group of men and told them that they looked like a rat pack.

Frank Sinatra, one of the most famous members of the pack, began his career singing swing music in the 1940's. After a bit of a lull in his career, he found stardom again when he won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his work in the film From Here To Eternity. He signed with Capitol Records and began recording the classic music and would make him a legend and a member of The Rat Pack.

Dean Martin had a long career as a singer, actor and comedian but he is best known for one of The Pack. In the 1940's, he was pounding the pavement looking for acting work when he was introduced to comedian Jerry Lewis. The two performed together for ten years as one of the world's most successful comedy pairs before breaking up to explore other opportunities, such as performances with Frank and the gang.

It may be too late to see a genuine Rat Pack performance, but fans can still experience the magic through Rat Pack tribute shows. People who saw the real thing live will not be able to tell the difference, and it is a great experience for the younger generations of fans. They are a great option for anything from a family party to a corporate event.
