It's exciting to start learning something new, especially something so beautiful like it is playing guitar, not only is exciting but it is an amazing experience. I know that learning to play guitar can be a little bit difficult at the beginning, but that is the hardest thing to do, taking the first step is not always easy. Imagine if you are driving to apply to the job of your dreams, you don't want to mess it up, so, you prepare yourself for the interview and if you know someone who has worked there before, you ask for their advice.
Well, now that you have made the decision of start learning guitar, it is about time to discover the road to be a great guitarist, and what do you need to do to learn guitar from the best.
First Tip: always dedicate time to practice during the day, about an hour a day is more than enough, but this is the key, particularly when you are just starting from scratch, this is what will make the difference for you.
Second Tip: Start listening to a lot of music, to be more specific, you need to listen to the songs you are going to eventually play on your guitar. This will not be the first thing you'll do, but the moment comes for you to start learning your songs it will be easier for you, you will recognize if you are playing it right or wrong.
Tip number three: do exercises. An example of a good exercise is after you have learned the chords, play them in order: C - D - E - F - G - A - B. Do this a couple of times to get used to the changes.
Fourth tip: something that really works out for me, and yes I know this may sound a little strange, is to keep practicing in your head; your mind will make it real, even if you are not holding your guitar. Try to continue doing the chords and just practice as if you were holding your guitar.
Tip number five: clean your guitar. Ok, this is not exactly a tip that will improve your skills as a guitar player, but is more like common sense. A clean guitar is a happy guitar, and a happy guitar will keep you happy too.
Tip number six: build finger strength. Don't worry; you don't have to join a gym to achieve this. You can do this by doing scales on your guitar or just by doing the chords correctly and holding your fingers still for a few seconds will do. You will feel the difference in a couple of days.
Tip number seven: play with your eyes shut. This is excellent, as it can be tricky. Try making changes from chord to chord first, then you can move to another exercise that you know. Your fingers will know what to do and you will learn faster.
Tip number eight: Look at other people. Having a role model to follow is a good thing to do, as long as it is to get motivation and inspiration only.
Then don't forget that the best way to learn guitar is to practice every day. I strongly recommend you to get a guitar course online, or if you are able to join a music academy, that's a good idea too. The important thing is to put dedication into it.
