The Best Oliver Stone Directed Movies Throughout The Years

One of the more controversial directors working in Hollywood today is Oliver Stone. Stone often picks sensitive subject matter to base his films around and is never afraid to take on taboo political topics. Regardless of how people feel about him, it is tough to deny that he is an incredibly talented director.

Let's discuss what I consider to be Oliver Stone's best films of his career.

When it comes to political thrillers, it is tough to get a film much better than JFK. This movie surrounds the aftermath of the assassination of one of the most beloved American presidents of all time. Gary Oldman is particularly exceptional in this film as the role of Lee Harvey Oswald.

Another fantastic film directed by Oliver Stone which I will include on this list is Platoon. When you want to talk about the most important Vietnam War movies to ever be released the list has to include Platoon, as well as Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now.

I would be remiss to make a list of Oliver Stone movies and not give mention to Wall Street. This is one of the more iconic flims of the late 1980s, and it is truly remarkable that they are releasing a sequel almost 25 years later!

When it comes to sports movies, one of my absolute favorites is Any Given Sunday. Al Pacino's "peace with inches" speech in this movie is one of my favorite speeches in any film ever. This movie also stars Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz.

Finally, I will include Born on the Fourth of July on this list. This 1989 film stars Tom Cruise as Ron Kovic, a Vietnam War veteran who is left paralyzed and becomes an anti-war advocate.

These are just some of the greatest films that Oliver Stone has directed. Barring Alexander, you can't really go wrong with any of his movies.

The Best Sean Penn Films In His Career

One actor who has been a dominant force on the awards front in recent years is Sean Penn. It seems that almost any time Penn stars in a film, he is likely to be nominated for an Academy Award. I'm not sure if there is bias toward this actor or if he is just that good.

I cannot say I am the biggest fan of Sean Penn as a person, but as an actor? There are few who do it better. Here are some of my favorite films that he has starred in.

It is tough to make a list of Sean Penn films without giving mention to the movie that won him his most recent Academy Award for Best Actor In A Leading Role. That movie was of course, Milk, in which Penn depicted the openly homosexual politician Harvey Milk.

Another fantastic Sean Penn film is the Clint Eastwood directed film, Mystic River. It came as no surprise that Sean Penn won the best actor award at the Oscars for his portrayal of Jimmy Markum. Tim Robbins also won big at the Oscars with the Best Supporting Actor award.

Another fantastic film that stars Sean Penn was The Game. This movie was directed by David Fincher and was released in 1997. If you like psychological thrillers, this is one of the better ones out there. This movie also stars Michael Douglas.

In the movie I Am Sam, Penn stars as a mentally retarded father fighting for custody of his young daughter. This is an incredibly moving film and quite the impressive display of acting by Penn. It came as little surprise that he was nominated for an Oscar for this role.

I don't think The Thin Red Line gets enough love. This is as gripping as war thrillers get, and while it was not in the same league as the other war film greats, it is still a very entertaining movie.

Is there a film that you like that I may have missed? I'm not surprised, as this was a difficult list to make and I had to make the cutoff somewhere.

The Greatest Harrison Ford Roles Of All Time

I would be lying if I said that Harrison Ford was one of my favorite actors. I mean I really like the guy, but I just don't think he has been in enough movies in recent years to warrant consideration. That is not to say I don't enjoy his movies. I think he has starred in more great films that most actors his age.

The following movies are my personal top five favorite films starring Harrison Ford.

Clear and Present Danger is one movie that definitely is on the list for me. I only wish they would come out with another Jack Ryan film, rather than another Indiana Jones. Patriot Games is also a great movie from the Jack Ryan franchise.

Of course, there has to be a movie from the Star Wars saga on this list, so I will just get it out of the way now. While I loved the Empire Strikes Back, it ended on such a cliffhanger (I can't handle cliffhangers in movies) that I have to give the nod to Return Of The Jedi.

Another franchise that rivals the Star Wars franchise in terms of Harrison Ford's success is Indiana Jones. When all is said and done, it will be the Indiana Jones films that Ford will be remembered for above all else. Who else could have played such a cool archaeologist?

I would be remiss to not include What Lies Beneath on my list of Harrison Ford's best films. I like to categorize this movie as a suspenseful, psychological thriller/horror. It keeps you guessing. I don't recommend watching this movie alone.

One other movie that I would definitely include in this article is Air Force One. In this movie, Harrison Ford plays the President of The United States and his plane is high jacked. The President has to take matters into his own hands and great action ensues.

Hopefully there are one or more films from Harrison Ford on this list which you have not yet seen, but will now consider.

Brad Pitt's Best Performances In Years Past

One of the most iconic and likable actors in Hollywood today is Brad Pitt. It is not all too often that you meet someone who doesn't like Brad Pitt. I mean, aside from the whole Jennifer Aniston fiasco, he seems like a really good guy. It also doesn't hurt that most of his movies are well selected.

There is no doubt that Brad Pitt has starred in more than five incredible movies, but this article will list my five favorites.

One movie that I certainly need to mention is Seven. This movie is as good as detective thrillers get. Pitt stars as a young detective working alongside an experienced veteran (played by Morgan Freeman), chasing after a mastermind serial killer. Not a film for the faint of heart.

Another great film that stars Brad Pitt is the Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. Pitt plays the part of Jesse James, while Casey Affleck does an incredible job as the coward Robert Ford.

Fight Club is probably one of my top 15 favorite movies of all time. Edward Norton and Brad Pitt star in this awesome movie, which also happened to be directed by David Fincher. If you have never seen Fight Club, move it to the top of your list.

One film that featured Brad Pitt that I thoroughly enjoyed was Snatch. It is truly amazing how crazy Pitt's accent is in this film; you cannot make out anything he is saying. I think its supposed to be Irish.

In the scope of the romantic genre, one great movie starring Brad Pitt was Meet Joe Black. Pitt plays Death in this film and falls in love with the daughter of the man who is supposed to kill. Pretty interesting stuff.

As it stands, this is my Brad Pitt film list, but I have no doubts that there will be others to consider in the next few years. The man only chooses the best of roles.

'Skyline' Movie Featured Edge Of Your Seat Thrills & More

Universal Pictures recently released a new sci-fi/thriller movie "Skyline" into theaters a couple months ago. I just checked it out. While it was exciting to watch,all the action and "edge of your seat scenes" lead up to no payoff in the end. It was very odd. It stars: Eric Balfour, Donald Faison, Scottie Thompson,and Brittany Daniel.

"Skyline" centered around a group of six partying guys and girls who have a great time at first,but the next morning, everything changes as crazy lights and noises wake everyone up. Eventually, they realize this new,weird light isn't good. In fact, it controls anyone who looks at it,and sucks them away to only God knows where.

Naturally, everyone start to panic. They attempt to carry out a plan to get in the car,and make a run for it,but they quickly find out that's not a good idea as the large alien creatures are everywhere,and they're not nice. One by One, the group of friends get killed off and dwindle down to just two people Jarrod (Balfour) and Elaine (Thompson).

They come to emerge as the main stars of the film,but not victorious ones. They run around everywhere,trying to fight off the big creatures,along with the armed forces that have been brought in to fight the monsters.

The film features a lot of thrilling moments like people getting sucked up into the creature,heads being separated from bodies,Jarrod fighting as hard as he can to save the woman he loves,lots of guns being fired,and bombs exploding.

It concluded with a really strange ending that showed what the aliens were doing with all the bodies they collected. However,there was absolutely no payoff at all. It was a very strange way to end an intense action thriller. As I left the theater, I heard a woman say, "I want my money back." It definitely was not the typical ending for a horror movie,and was kind of disappointing for me. However, everything in the film before that was really cool to watch,and kept me on the edge of my seat. I gave this movie a cool B- grade.

Martin Scorsese And His Best Films In Throughout His Career

When discussing the greatest directors of all time, one person who is absolutely near the top of the list is Martin Scorsese. For decades, Scorsese has been churning out classic films and I don't think he's ever had a bad movie. It is truly remarkable that such a legend did not win his first Academy Award for Best Director until The Departed.

When it comes to choosing the best Martin Scorsese films, the following are my favorites.

It is tough to make a list of Martin Scorsese movies without giving praise to Taxi Driver. I saw this film for the first time in a film class at college, and I absolutely loved it. Both Robert De Niro and Jodie Foster were excellent in this movie.

Gangs Of New York was not a film that I immediately wanted to see. It was only after I heard so many positive things about this DiCaprio and Scorsese collaboration that I decided to see it. Daniel Day Lewis was spectacular as Bill the Butcher.

In an interesting choice of filmmaking, Scorsese teamed up with his new Hollywood favorite actor, Leonardo DiCaprio to make a biopic on Howard Hughes. The film we are discussing of course, is the Aviator. This is a great movie.

One other fantastic movie which Scorsese directed was The Departed. This, of course, was the film that finally won him the Academy Award for Best Director. While I think earlier movies were well deserving of it (Goodfellas, Casino, etc), this movie was definitely a worthy candidate.

The last movie I will include on this epic list is Shutter Island. I really did not know what to expect in this psychological horror thriller, but I knew that if Scorsese was directing and DiCaprio was starring, it had to be good. I was right.

These are just some of the best Scorsese films of all time. Chances are if you are watching one of his movies, it is going to be great.

Whether or not you like the guy, it is tough to deny that Tom Cruise is a worldwide superstar. Cruise has been in the Hollywood spotlight for almost 30 years, and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. Sure, he's had his share of duds over the years, but he has also starred in some amazing films.

Whether or not you are a fan of him as a person, it is hard to argue with Tom Cruise's list of movies that he has starred in. Here are some of my favorites.

The first movie I will mention also happened to be my Halloween costume last year, and that film was Risky Business. The scene in this movie where Cruise is running around his house in sunglasses and socks has become an iconic scene.

Another great Tom Cruise movie that I thoroughly enjoyed was The Last Samurai. This is a great war epic, taking place in 1800s Japan at a time when the Samurai and their traditions were being wiped out of existence. This is a fantastic movie.

One film which I feel deserves to be mentioned is A Few Good Men. One interesting fact about this crime thriller is that writer Aaron Sorkin wrote the whole screenplay on napkins while he was working at a theater as a low level employee. Suffice it to say that this film was his big break.

One other great film of Tom Cruise's is also an iconic film, and that is none other than Top Gun. This was good as early 1990s action got. Everything from the flight scenes to the dialogue is great in this movie.

Of course, one movie that must be mentioned on this list is Rain Main. This is an absolutely incredible film, and Dustin Hoffman delivers the role of his career. It was no surprise that this movie won the Oscar for Best Picture of the Year.

These are just some of the greatest Tom Cruise movies, but there are surely others which I have failed to mention. If you have not seen any movies on this list, then you have some work to do, as they are all worthy of seeing.

Horror movies offer many different types for you to watch, and know what they are can help you chose the next film you want to see. Not all of them offer gore and blood and there are many different sub genres that you can enjoy.

Those that have a murderer that attacks the victims in a gruesome manner are called slasher films. The antagonist may be known from the beginning, may wear a mask or my be a a person that you are trying to figure out who it is while watching. Often, they leave one person that isn't killed and this frequently allows for a number of sequels, with some of the most famous having many films in the franchise.

Thrillers tend to use a psychological angle to cause suspense. In this genre, they tend to have more blood and guts than the typical one, although they contain suspense and mystery throughout the film. These are designed to leave you on the edge of your seat during the entire movie with many plot twists and turns to keep you guessing as to what is occurring on the screen.

Exploitation, or torture films use extremely graphic effects to show the death of the victims on the screen, and are some of the bloodiest on the market. Relying more on shock value and a gross effect rather than real terror, these are often controversial die to the extreme nature of the films. Many make the act sexual and glamorous, which adds to the taboo nature of these types of films.

Monster films, or creature features, take a being from the movies like a vampire or werewolf and center the film around them. They can be dark humor or serious films, and usually culminate in the monster being killed or otherwise controlled in some way.

While zombies are similar to the monster films, they have gained popularity and have created a sub genre all of their own. They have their own rules and may actually be more than one type but they all will deal with the threat of the living dead. Many of these features surviving an onslaught of a zombie attack in will be either be very dark in serious were humorous and campy. Each type has a strong following in many fans.

Paranormal films deal with ghosts and other things that cannot be seen. Many of these rarely show the object of terror, instead relying on the idea or the effects that they cause. It can include ghosts, phenomena and magic as a method of creating the suspense and many of these are effective with what they don't show versus what they do.

Those that enjoy horror movies are as diverse as the films that you can enjoy. Each fan will have their own favorite type, and there are examples from the earliest Hollywood films to modern day offerings that will fit the bill. While some of them are truly bad, many of them a entertaining with good plots an excellent effects which makes them worth sitting through.
