Panasonic 3D Glasses Are Out Of Stock And It's a Good Thing For You!

By Tom Webb

Panasonic Plasma 3D TVs are rated by many experts as some of the best 3D TVs on the market and customers are eager to bring them home and enjoy 3D but there is a big problem. Customers who want extra 3D glasses are forced to wait because Panasonic 3D Glasses are out-of-stock.

For example just one of the many Paul's TV stores in Michigan has a back order approaching 200 glasses that customers have paid for but are waiting for Panasonic to be back in stock and they're not even located in a large city! So there could easily be tens of thousands of people waiting for some unspecified period of time for Panasonic to bring more 3D glasses to market.

However, in a way, I see being out-of-stock is a blessing in disguise for you and others in your same position because Panasonic 3D Glasses have some major drawbacks in addition to just being out-of-stock. This is a great time to understand what these drawbacks are in order to determine if waiting for them to be in stock is actually the right thing for you to do.

The first problem is the sizes of these glasses. Panasonic is the only company to have three different sizes (i.e. small, medium, and large). This would not be a problem if these glasses actually varied enough to make a difference. The small glasses are only 1/8 of an inch smaller than the mediums, and the large ones are just 1/8 or an inch larger than the mediums. This slight difference isn't enough to change how these fit on anyone. On top of that they charge a premium for the small and large pairs. This is a company betting on its customers not noticing the marginal difference between sizes and paying a premium to obtain either the large or small pair when there really is no benefit.

This leads right into the next issue, the size of the lens on these 3D glasses. The lens is considerably smaller than most of Panasonic's competitors. The surface area of the Panasonic lens is 15.82 square centimeters (~2.45 square inches). Comparing that to The TDG-BR100 by Sony (20.12 square centimeters) and the SSG-2100 by Samsung (20.62 square centimeters)

Third, because Panasonic has the three sizes to choose from most assume that the lens size will change accordingly (i.e. the large size will have bigger lens than the small). The lens size is exactly the same for all three, which further dilutes the need for even having three sizes in the first place.

The fourth problem is how they fit over prescription glasses. According to the Vision Council of America around 1 in 2 Americans wear prescription eyewear for one reason or another that means many people will have to put 3D Glasses over their own glasses. This is where Panasonic really dropped the ball because the frames on the Panasonic 3D glasses force you to wear them either too high or too low to fit right. This causes the 3D Glasses to slide or fall off while watching.

These issues are not of speculation, as here is a recent review directly from Amazon, and this is a an Amazon verified purchase review:

By P. Zeissig "pzeissig" (Boston, MA) - "I wear them over my existing glasses and after an hour they become quite painful. Ordered size large. Also the lenses are quite narrow, so you get kind of a telescopic view through them."

These 4 reasons are why it is better you can't purchase Panasonic 3D glasses right now. You may benefit from this as this will allow you some time to stop and consider all of the options available to you. Most people do not realize that there are alternatives available to them that replicate the function of the Panasonic 3D TY-EW3D2LU Large Glasses, Panasonic 3D TY-EW3D2MU Medium Glasses, and the Panasonic 3D TY-EW3D2SU Small Glasses.

One such pair of 3D glasses that we have discovered is able to work in function just as if they were original factory glasses by not only Panasonic, but also Samsung (2010 and prior models), SONY, Philips, Sharp, Toshiba, and Mitsubishi. These 3D Glasses made by Blick are able to do this by using an Active Sync Smart Technology which simply means you do not have to set them up or do any programming.

With our current economic climate more and more people are investigating what they buy before they purchase in order to make the best decision. Once you are aware that you do have options, be sure to do your due diligence to get the maximum enjoyment out of your 3D entertainment.
