Surpassing The Beginner Piano Barrier

By Andy Penbram

The basics of beginner piano can be learned in quite a little while. After around two or three classes with an individual piano teacher you should have learned the proper way to find every one of the notes are and as well the proper way to play some basic tunes, maybe even with two hands at the same time. I myself have made a video showing you the easiest way to play the fundamentals of piano in less than ten minutes.

The tricky part comes when you begin to play with both hands as one and you desire to advance further. For people that are learning with a classical piano teacher they may undoubtedly be given one or two of set pieces to learn. First you'll have to learn to play the right hand part by itself. Practicing it again and again again until you can play it with no hesitation. After that you're going to do the same with the part for the left hand. This is a bit more tricky for most people but after a bit it gets a lot easier.

Now the fun begins... Placing it all together. You can compare that with riding a bike. One day it will all just come together but until then, you may find the educational process a little slow.

If you're being taught at home with a home learning course or a dvd then you'll almost definitely be getting a grip on diverse musical styles or genres at the same time. The essentials of piano learning remain the same though. Learning how to play simple melodies and chords in the right hand and playing a basic bass line with the left. When it comes to mixing the left hand with the right you will not think it as complex as combing your hands while learning set classical pieces. You'll be playing a ton quicker by doing this.

To become more advanced in this style you will have to include a tune in your right hand with the chords which you might find a little tricky. Or instead occasionally you'll be playing just the tune in the right hand and you will be mixing the bass line and the chords in the left. It's the mixing of the two things in one hand that you'll find most tricky of all but you will find that over a period of time this technique will enable you to move on a lot quicker and will give you a solid background in piano playing.

When you've become talented then you will doubtless grow out of the study course and will then gain from attending regular one on one piano classes with a private teacher.
