Some Of The Most Memorable Acting Performances From The Iconic Actor, Jack Nicholson

By Todd Waters

Jack Nicholson is without a doubt of the greatest actors of his generation, if not ever. There are so many movies that the man has starred in which have achieved iconic status, either from audiences, critics, the Academy or all of the above. When discussing the best Nicholson films, it is important to cite several films which help to showcase Jack's versatility.

The following movies are my favorite films starring the great Jack Nicholson.

If you have yet to see The Departed, you are missing out. Few films that have come out in recent years have touched the brilliance that The Departed delivered. It came as little surprise to most when this movie won the Oscar for Best Picture of The Year.

In the 1975 cult classic One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Jack Nicholson stars as R.P. McMurphy. It came as no surprise that he won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for this iconic role.

One of the best Jack Nicholson roles of all time is without a doubt his portrayal of Colonel Nathan R. Jessep in A Few Good Men. This movie is incredible, which comes as no surprise since the great Aaron Sorkin wrote the screenplay.

I normally do not care for romantic comedies, but Terms Of Endearment, which was released in 1983, was a very enjoyable film to watch. And this is coming from a guy who does not care for the genre normally. This movie also stars Danny DeVito, Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger.

As Good As It Gets, is close to as good as it gets when discussing Jack Nicholson films. This movie also starred Helen Hunt and Cuba Gooding Jr at the peak of their respective careers. Jack plays the role of Melvin Udall to a tee.

I wanted to limit this list to five films, but feel that a six movie, Chinatown is worth mentioning. This is a great murder mystery film that was released in 1974.
