Philip Seymour Hoffman's Greatest Performances In Throughout His Career

By Andrew Wilford

It is always interesting to come across an actor who, while extremely talented, takes a while to work his way up to widespread acclaim. One such actor is Philip Seymour Hoffman. For about 20 years, Hoffman has appeared in many movies but hasn't necessarily starred in them. I guess you can say he has had his big break, and now has the freedom to choose whichever roles he wants.

This article will discuss some of the best Philip Seymour Hoffman movies and roles up to this point in his career.

One film that must be discussed when talking about Philip Seymour Hoffman movies is Boogie Nights. This is a rather peculiar role for Hoffman, but the man still manages to give a great performance. There is one scene he is involved in, which is uncomfortable, to say the least.

While the Mission Impossible movies rarely get acclaim, I felt that Hoffman did an amazing role as the villain the third installment of this franchise. He was scary, ruthless and evil.

One movie that must be mentioned when discussing Hoffman films is Doubt. This movie stars Hoffman as a priest being questioned by a strict and evil nun, played by none other than the great Meryl Streep.

Philip Seymour Hoffman doesn't always feel the need to play the lead role in a film and that is most apparent to me as his role of Brandt in The Big Lebowski. He may not have been the star of this movie, but there is no doubt he helped to contribute to its greatness.

When it comes to Hoffman's finest acting performances, one movie that has to be mentioned is Capote. This movie finally won Hoffman an Oscar. Even without knowing anything about the man who this movie is about, you can still appreciate the fine acting job that he delivered.

While these films comprise the current list, rumor has it that Hoffman is in talks to star as The Penguin in the third Batman installment. If that happens, I may have to reevaluate this list.
