Student of the Year; Karan Johar's next to be the shortest film directed by him

Model-turned-actor Siddharth Malhotra has been grabbing a lot of attention lately with his first on-screen appearance, Student of the Year, scheduled to release on the 19th of October 2012. Starring in Karan Johar's upcoming film along with Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, Malhotra who has had no previous experience in movies has been said to have found acting difficult, while his peers, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, both come from strong backgrounds in the film industry. With a star-packed cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor, the director set a budget of above Rs. 40 crore. Shot in the United States and the United Kingdom, the film includes extravagant sets and expensive designer wear and was one of the most expensive movies made at that time. Produced by Yash Johar, the film went on to win five FilmFare Awards.

All this however hasn't stopped Siddharth from proving himself and leaving Karan Johar impressed with his work for the upcoming film. Quickly adjusting with the usual long work-hours, that at times top 13 to 14 hours a day, Malhotra kept a meticulous check on his health and fitness regime. The young actor has been working-out as often as possible to stay in exceptional shape for the film which further goes to highlight his professionalism and diligence.

This isn't the first time Siddharth Malhotra has faced a camera. Siddharth Malhotra was also involved in a film previous that however failed to kick off. He has also made an appearance as a child actor for the television series Prithviraj Chauhan. Also, the actor has walked the ramp several times for international designers including Roberto Cavalli and has donned the creations of Manish Arora, Manish Malhotra and Rohit Bal. Additionally, Siddharth has worked as an Assistant Director along with now-co-actor Varun Dhawan, helping Karan Johar for his most-recent Dharma Productions release, My Name is Khan, the fourth movie directed by Johar himself. Malhotra then got familiar with the director himself and Varun Dhawan on his trip to Los Angeles during the production of My Name Is Khan.

Karan Johar's Student of the Year will see Siddharth Malhotra play the role of Abhimanyu, a student at St. Teresa's High School, Dehradun, who enters a competition with Rohan Nanda (Varun Dhawan) and Shanaya Singhania (Alia Bhatt) as opponents.
