Karan Johar takes Student of the Year to London!

By Rohini Nadia

It's been two years since Karan Johar last set out to direct a movie. His upcoming film, Student of the Year, will be released in the next few weeks and is marked as one of the most awaited movies of the year. The film is unlike any of Karan Johar's previous projects and breaking his usual trend of roping in Bollywood bigwigs, this film will star three fresh faces. The movie features Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in the lead. Making their first silver-screen appearance, the film will act as a launch-pad for the newcomers.

The trio with their mentor-director was spotted at Eternity Mall in Nagpur, Pune's Indira College, the Podar College in Mumbai and AIIMS-Delhi. They've also taken their promotional efforts across borders and have visited the city of London recently, wooing the screaming crowds and dishing out autographs.

At the event, Karan Johar and his host of newcomers were greeted by fans, who were allowed to take pictures of the actors and their autographs. The actors then performed "The Disco Song" to a cheering crowd, while a girl from the audience was given the opportunity to dance with Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan on "Ishq Wala Love". Quoting Karan Johar at the event, "Thank you all for coming out to see us tonight and for all your love and I only have more love to give back to you. Make sure you come and give our movie love on 19th of October. If you are young, you will love it and if you are not young, it will make you feel young."

This is also his first film without his best friend and lucky charm Shah Rukh Khan. When asked if he seeks to compete with Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar went on to add "I can only compete with equals. I am not equal to Shah Rukh ... His brand power and superiority as an individual is humungous." Shah Rukh Khan has starred in all of Karan's films including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and My Name Is Khan. "I don't think any filmmaker in India is deluded to think that he is in par with any movie star, let alone Shah Rukh Khan. Perhaps that's the reason why we share such a beautiful bond. We always knew that he was the larger superstar. I need him more than he can ever need me," said Karan Johar.

The upcoming Student of the Year by Karan Johar is one of 2012's most anticipated films. With Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt playing the roles of three students in a high-class school, this film is essentially a coming-of-age campus romance. The film will release on the 19th of October, 2012.
