Campus-romances have never really failed to grab attention on previous account and Karan Johar's upcoming Student of the Year is expected to step into the spotlight too. The film, scheduled to release on the 19th of October, is Karan Johar's fifth film.
According to the veteran director, his leading male actors have personalities perfect for the big screen. Known to have launched a host of directors before including Nikhil Advani, Shakun Batra, Karan Malhotra, Ayan Mukerji and Tarun Mansukhani, this is the first time Karan Johar has worked with a host of newcomers.
Giving the promotional campaign a boost, the Student of the Year team has hit social-media websites like Facebook, the micro-blogging site Twitter, Pinterest and Google+. Student of the Year's Facebook page currently boasts a 200,000-plus community. The movie's Twitter handle on the other hand has nearly 3,300 followers, keeping regular tabs on updates from the film, its cast and the veteran director Karan Johar. The team has recently shot for a publicity campaign, brought to light by Karan Johar's post on Twitter. And that's not all. For the film, the Student of the Year team has also set up a full-fledged blog, complete with all the information you'd need on Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan.
The newcomers Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan have been trained and mentored by Karan himself for the upcoming film. "We did workshops and they were found to be right for the roles. They have this enduring charm to them and though they had some rough edges, I knew that they had potential to face the camera. Moreover after watching the film, you would realize that they have this correct celluloid presence. While Sidharth has the right restraint to play Abhi, Varun carries good enough flamboyance to play Rohan," says Karan.
Complete with lots of school-campus footage and just enough dance and song routines synonymous with all of Karan Johar's films, Student of the Year brings to light the dilemmas of teenage relationships. An extravaganza unlike any other, the film is produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment. The film also stars Rishi Kapoor, Sana Seed, Ronit Roy and Ram Kapoor. Lately, there have been rumors of guest appearances by Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan. The film was announced on the 5th of January 2011 with a first-look poster uploaded on the micro-blogging website Twitter by the film's director, Karan Johar.
