Taking a Closer Look at the Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet

By Gary Brodie

When the iPad first came out, a lot of people said to themselves, "Whatever, I have a laptop for that." Very rapidly, however, the potentials of the iPad became recognized. It wasn't long before all the big providers of mobiles and computers wanted in on on the fast-growing action. Abruptly, Tablets were in all the retail outlets. Of course, Dell is targeting to get a piece of the pie. That is the very reason they introduced the Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet. Whether this tablet makes the grade and is worth the money is what we are going to try to find out in this article.

It's a good device but watching movies is not a simple as when you download ipad movies. The first drawback on this tablet is its maker. Dell isn't actually recognized for making good and reliable products. And as for Dell's customer service: well, let's just say if this company owned a trophy shelf, it would not be filled with consumer awards. From customer feedback, it seems that the moment your warranty expires, you will be billed for making service calls. Purchasing a product from Dell might have future implications - and not just price - which may well outweigh the quick savings from it being a comparatively inexpensive purchase.

The tablet has the Android OS (this version is affectionately referrend to as Froyo), which means that it should permit you to multitask between various programs pretty easily. It's not a necessity to keep particular applications "live" in order to get messages from the system's notification service, while at the same time listening to MP3s and keeping your GPS information up-to-date. Acquaintances and business contacts will constantly be able to get hold of you on your Streak 7 tablet because it gives you access to your email accounts, including Gmail, relatively easily.

One of the best things about the Streak 7 tablet that did not come with the first iPad design is video chat. This Dell tablet, using Qik software and a front-facing panel cam, offers video chat. The only catch is that the only ones you can chat with are those who own a Streak tablet or a compatible device. Hence, video chatting with those who are on other platforms is not ensured. Another perk is that the Dell Streak 7 table features Blockbuster's On Demand service. Of course, Blockbuster has been going through its own share of troubles of late so we aren't very certain if this is truly a selling point.

Reviews right now are few and far between, but it does appear that most people are wary as to the reasons why this product was createdd. The Dell Streak 7 tablet's pragmatic use is limited by its not being universal and its subsequent inability to communicate with other devices. However, if you think you're missing out and would like to determine whether tablets are truly the thing for you, this tablet is a low-cost way for you to find out. Keeping in mind the earlier caveats, do think about your purchase cautiously prior to committing any money.
