Filmography of Jay Kubassek

By Joseph J. Newquist

Jay Kubassek is well regarded in the online business industry. Jay, together with his partners, established the marketing education and research company, CarbonCopyPRO, more than six years ago. In just a short span of time, CCPRO has grown into a multimillion dollar corporation that accommodates thousands of people worldwide. Jay's varied interests and unquenchable entrepreneurial spirit led him to set up other companies. One of those is Aliquot Films, a motion picture production and distribution outfit.

To those who are no stranger to Jay Kubassek's life story, Jay's venture into film production is not at all unforeseen. This man grew up in a small secluded community without access to the internet, newspapers, and television. He candidly recounted how he and his friends would go to their neighbor's house just to watch television. Not like his contemporaries, his subjection to motion pictures and TV series were greatly restricted. As a matter of fact, he was already 19 when he first watched the American adventure film, The Goonies. Regardless of this, he continued to develop his immense passion for film. When he had the ample resources and clout to permeate the industry, he launched his own production company.

This company has produced three independent films and documentaries so far. The first Jay Kubassek Film was Chelsea on the Rocks. This documentary was directed by none other than the celebrated screen writer and director Abel Ferrara. It is dedicated to the New York historic landmark, Chelsea Hotel. It showcases the hotel's tumultuous history and the eclectic personalities that it embraced in its arms. Chelsea Hotel was enveloped in a recent controversy stemming from its purchase by real estate developer Joseph Chetrit. Chelsea on the Rocks opened in 2008 at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The film was received warmly by audiences and received mostly positive reviews from critics.

The second Jay Kubassek Film, Meskada, received mixed reviews from critics and moviegoers. Meskada is a drama thriller that features the quest of a small town detective to investigate the circumstances behind the killing of a boy in a burglary gone awry. It then evolved into clashes between two towns - one affluent, the other destitute. Though the majority points at the seemingly chaotic and incongruent story line, they have also lauded the outstanding character performances of the actors. Meskada was screened in the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival.

The newest project that Aliquot Films has on its sleeves is another documentary entitled Evolution of A Criminal. This is co-produced by the legendary and much heralded film director, producer, writer, and actor, Spike Lee. Its theme is the redemption of a branded man. A 17 year old kid was convicted and imprisoned in Texas prison for robbing a branch of the Bank of America. Ten years later, he returns to his roots and inspects how his actions have impacted his family, friends, and most of all, his victims. This is the true to life story of Darius Clark Monroe who is also the film's director. After his serving his sentence, Monroe went on to study filmmaking in New York and became one of Spike Lee's students. This film is still in its post-production stage and is yet to be released.
