Get The Tempo Right Make The Ambience

By Jeff De Cleff

Are you ready? Get your bum off the seat, for there's some people for you to meet, I am calling from the floor need to see you move a lil more! I am talking about great rhythm, tempo, dancing to a remix spun by the wedding dj. Getting the guests young and old to boogie on the floor.

Music makes a scene, it creates the ambience and it decides whether your engagement party or corporate entertainment choice was an amazing high or a shocking flop. We are moved by music, it's embedded in our culture and our psyche, it stretches the bounds, it brings up memories, our favourite song, or the first time when ... music can create momentum in our emotions, our bodies, music is a maker of perception.

Think about a film, some of the best flicks have the most noteworthy soundtracks. How could you get the Sound of Music without The Hills are Alive! Or Saturday Night Fever without Stayin ' Alive, and come on, 2001: The Space Odyssey - it connected aliens with humans! I could go on with other great pictures with awe provoking soundtracks, The Sting, Fantasia, The Mission. Music creates the emotion, it leads us into fear, joy, passion, laughter, aggression - just remember Rocky, it was hard not to leave the theatre throwing punches at the biggest dude you could find! Or Forrest Gump and the thrill of knowing life is a box of chocolates.

Music will create an atmosphere, it'll generate emotion, it provides the catalyst to memories and an association to events. And is the reason why finding the right mobile dj for your engagement party is so significant. Just choosing some random man who turns up with a turntable, PA and a few speakers will not cut it. He might have the right gear but owning a guitar don't mean you can play it!

If you're on the lookout for the right DJ, check out his songlist, get a feel for his rhythm, see whether he'll actually MC or if he just plainly announces the next song. A club dj is a specialist - to work it they need to get people on the floor - it's an artform, a craft like comedy. Causing that first chuckle is hard, but once you get them rolling, then raucous laughter ensues ... Same with the dj, once you get the first one moving, before you know it the dance floor is full, your crowd are moving and grooving and the dancing goes all night. Now that's what you need from your wedding dj!

Don't think of equipment, keep an eye out for the artform, find the artist that's the rhythm of the dj.
