HDTV Is Great

By Thomas Standing

There are pros and cons to HDTV. As with all technology, advancement is usually a great thing and the television set has come a long way. From black and white, two channel sets to a legion of channels and incredible life like pictures, the TV is still the most popular form of household entertainment.

HDTV stands for High Definition Television and as the name suggests gives you a very high level of definition. Currently you get around 150 million pixels per frame that translates into a fantastic picture that is very realistic.

In recent years HDTV has become mainstream and the cost of them has dropped drastically, but they are still relatively expensive. Fortunately, like most new technologies you can expect them to continue to fall still further in price. This means that within a few year they will be the norm instead of the exception and every household that replaces a TV set will be able to do so with a HD ready set.

Before you rush out and buy a HDTV, think about whether there are enough of your favourite programmes broadcast in a high definition format. Think also about the games consoles you use and whether you will be able to get your hands of high definition DVDs .

If you are a big sports fan, HDTV is probably worth the purchase. It's the quality of picture when watching sports matches that usually gets the most rave reviews from high def users. One of the reasons for this is that high definition programmes are usually accompanied by surround sound which is a really big improvement on the standard television experience.

Next time you go to a large electrical store take the time to look at the HDTVs to see if you like them. Ask the assistant to show you a few DVDs on a HDTV so that you can see just how good HD is and whether you will enjoy the difference.
