A Dummy's Basic Guide To Convert Slides To Digital Media

By Deann Page

One of the many ways that people preserve precious moments is through photography. Since the advent of slide viewing became common, pasting of pictures in photo albums have become so rare that people are using less and less of photographic films aside from professional photographers. That happened years ago. Now, the common form of picture viewing is through laptops, iPads and other portable gadgets that have recently become prevalent. With these facts in mind, it might be suitable to convert slides to digital media so that the pictures will be stored safely.

A slide is generally known in photography as a reversal film that can be used to produce a positive image in a transparent base. The film is typically used for transparencies or diapositives. These are normally mounted individual transparencies that are designed to project into screens using a projector. This allows the photograph to be viewed by an audience. Its uses are typically for viewing purposes only without the benefit of editing, zooming, enhancing and even long term storage.

This is why digitized images hold better appeal for photography enthusiasts. The format allows them to zoom, enhance and edit the images in infinite ways. It could also allow for the mass production of images without the bother of having to print the produced copies. They may just be stored in the computer and viewed or edited later on.

With the continuous developments in modern technology, it is not so hard to imagine that slide viewing will be phased out in a few short years. Displaying and collecting of images will then be done digitally because these tend to be more reliable and can allow for editing, enhancing and long term storage of the pictures.

It would not be difficult to predict the nearing obsolete fate of slide viewing due to the many conveniences of digitizing an image. Editing, enhancing and other functions are allowed with these formats and they also produce better quality images that can be viewed any time. Portability of the images is also a benefit because these can be stored in universal serial buses, laptops, cellphones, iPads, etc.

The best way to convert a slide image is to take it to a professional photographer or a photography shop. These actually have the right skills and tools to properly do the conversion process and even enhance the quality of the images that were converted.

However, you can also opt to do things yourself by just using a scanner. It would be best to use a scanner that was specifically designed to do the task. This way, more quality images will be produced and less editing or enhancing is required.

It may seem tedious but the process involved to convert slides to digital media is actually a piece of cake. It doesn't take much effort and time and it doesn't even cost a lot. For someone who desires better quality images for storing and editing purposes, converting is not such a bad idea.
