Straightforward Tips To Mend A Scratched CD Or DVD

By Grace Massey

In this article I'm going to be showing you 4 obscure pointers to fix scratched CD or DVD and recover the information within; every user has had trouble with a scratched CD or DVD. The concept goes like so - A CD/DVD reader or player uses a laser beam to read the info on the disk. This laser crosses the protecting plastic layer and reads the real recording metal layer. If the protecting plastic layer is scratched, the laser will not be able to pass leading to non-readable disk. In the case of data CDs the CD/DVD reader is unable to read the CD/DVD properly leading to reading errors while in case of audio/video discs, the CD player skips when we play it.

If somehow we come up with a way to re-smooth this protective layer then the laser will reach the data and read it, now there are many ways in which we can achieve this using common home items as discussed below:

1). Toothpaste - Yups! Toothpaste is our first scratched CD/DVD fixer, you can use any non-gel based toothpaste for this, just put a very small quantity of it on the scratched area and polish it gradually using a cotton swab, infrequently the paste may result in new minor scratches but they are just insubstantial. Now just wash the CD using water.

2). If the above trick doesn't work try some metal polish like Brasso delicately wiping with a soft cotton ball followed by application of Vaseline.

3). Baking Soda - make a little quantity of bread soda paste and apply employing a soft cotton cloth buffing the bad scratch. Clean the baking soda before utilising the disc.

4). You can try using some oil as a polishing agent this also works many times.

There are lots of everyday use products that can be used to get the CD working just keep on experimenting, please note that you should take good care while using the above tips as.
