With more and more people making it big and constantly touring, we have more choice than ever when it comes to seeing live music. And with all the mainstream and larger artists more easily accessible with such big venues popping up here there and everywhere, it's easy to forget that everyone has to start somewhere. In those smaller but none the less influential venues dotted around our cities you could be missing your chance to glimpse the next big thing before everyone else.
Frank Ocean, a singer and songwriter from New Orleans has been writing for the likes of Beyonce, Kanye West and Jay Z, and has now found fame on his own with his debut mix tape Nostalgia Ultra. Voted second in the BBC Sound of 2012 poll, and plans for a debut studio album to be released before the first half of the year is up, it is clear that Frank Ocean is going places.
Los Angeles duo Electric Guest may be more indie rockers, but this duo has the ever so slight advantage of having a high end producer who is none other than the amazing hip-hop prodigy Danger Mouse. The feisty foursome Alabama Shakes are fresh from the US state of Alabama and are ready to relight the northern rock and soul fire band's powerful rhythms and riffs, I can't say they will have much of a fight on their hands. Their soulful music has people falling at their feet in thanks for introducing some real and powerful passion back into music.
