The experience a survivor has from an assault is very traumatic and hard to recover from. It is much harder to talk about the experience because of the personal details the victim has to reveal of him or herself. This takes a big deal of courage from the person and trust. Many support groups are available, through websites or phone support lines and their services offer survivors to participate and talk about their sexual abuse survivor stories.
Various clinics and centres offer support in the form of support groups which allow the survivors to connect with other survivors and share their accounts. These accounts, offering support and comfort, is a way for them to recover from the painful experience they went through.
Due to feelings of mistrust and guilt, many sufferers of assault decide to forget about the incident they went through and move on. Only later in their lives, they discover it is important to release the pain by telling their story.
A large number of the victims who fall to such exploitation are women. Many of them have been mistreated since they were children or during their adolescence. Most of the incidents of such mistreatment include, rape, harassment, molestation, prostitution and incest.
After the incident, the victims feel their bodies have been violated and their innocence has been taken for granted. For fear of distrust or shame, they keep their experience to themselves afraid to expose it. They will feel hurt and used after such a painful experience which can lower their self esteem and may lead to self destruction.
Sufferers of rape or other assaults, have difficulty accepting their bodies after the painful experience. They are not able to feel satisfaction from intimacy as they feel used. Through their sexual abuse survivor stories, they can learn to love themselves as well as their bodies.
