Tom Cruise Films Were Consistently Popular

By Febri Jawal

Risky Business is one of the first Tom Cruise movies that everyone associates with him and his early career. Fans laughter rings out when he appears in the role of Joel Goodsen and dances and sings in his underwear. This film is one of the biggest hits from 1983.

He starred as a pilot in 1986. The movie was Top Gun and he was Lieutenant Pete, Maverick, Mitchel. This film soared to new heights, both literally and figuratively. The views from the pilots seat were absolutely dizzying to watch.

In one of his most touching roles, he played Charlie Babbit in the outstanding 1988 film, Rain Man. He navigated through a wide range of emotions as he discovered he had an older brother he never knew existed. He began as a money-hungry entrepreneur and before the movie ended, had achieved a caring, loving relationship with the brother who was mentally challenged. By the end of the film the audience liked Charlie a whole lot more than they did at the beginning.

He grew into the savvy lawyer as Mitch McDeere in the 1993 masterpiece, The Firm. His joy at being taken in to the firm with the big bucks turned to horror at what this legal group was really all about. There was no limit to the peaks and valleys of emotion the audience was taken through during this suspenseful movie.

The roles Cruise has played include both acting and producing. He was a producer of Without Limits in 1998 and Hitting it Hard in 2002. He was credited as executive producer of The Others in 2001 and Narc in 2002. It is obvious he has been a busy man both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

In Far and Away, he plays an Irish immigrant to America. Nicole Kidman, his second wife, plays his love interest. A scene in which he punched a horse in the mouth was funny to some, hated by others. Minority Report is a futuristic science fiction film in which a murderer can be identified prior to committing the murder. Three psychics determine the soon-to-be guilty parties. Cruise plays what is called a PreCrime captain by the name of John Anderton,

In June of this year, 2012, the list of Tom Cruise movies grew longer when he starred in Rock of Ages. This hit, directed by Adam Shankman, was adapted from a Broadway musical bearing the same name. He absolutely rocked the screen as Stacee Jaxx, a dynamite rock singer. He performs a benefit to save his friend from losing the bar he owns. Included are a pack of famous actors and a panoply of sub plots woven throughout.
