How To Ensure Proper Acoustics In Church Design

By Johnathan Louis

From the holy bible, Jesus Christ passed a lot of His messages in the open or on top of mountains and could reach people at far areas. However, today the scenario is different and churches must properly use technology to ensure effective communication in the place of worship. To come up with the right acoustics in church design, people must make sure they choose the sound panels, wall treatments and drum shields wisely. In addition, it may necessitate consultation with competent sound engineers, good research in books or even trainings for the people concerned.

Proper design requires that; all listeners in the place of worship are provided with good hearing conditions. This should also support sounds produced both by the assembly, the music ministers and the clergy when at the pulpit. The major difficult is how to account for the different sound patterns coming from the various sources.

A good way is to have the right structural blueprint and building layout from the beginning. This should keep most noise away. Have in mind that quality of sound in any structure is determined by the finishes and its shape. If not done right, these aspects will be costly to change on an already constructed structure.

Choose the right wall treatments depending on your hall. Different churches will require varying sound provisions. This calls for those concerned to collect enough details of their building, to enable them come up with paneling that suits them. Talk to a sound engineer to guide you on this.

Once the architecture of the room is in place, you have to think of the sound systems. If well-planned, these can also enhance quality of sound making each worship experience excellent. Ensure the systems correlate well with the hall treatments to achieve a clear acoustical effect.

It is vital to test the sound levels once you have installed everything including the wall treatments. This helps you identify whether the panels are well fitted. Listening to varying volume levels of the speakers can tell the quality of acoustics in church design.
