Will there be a sequel to the Inbetweeners film?

By Joey Felltrup

Following the success of Channel 4's The Inbetweeners, the names Will, Simon, Jay and Neil became synonymous with college lad-culture. Their failed attempts at wooing the ladies and competing with their peers had us laughing constantly from 2008 to 2010 on the TV, before they decided to release an equally mortifying yet hilarious film, The Inbetweeners Movie, in 2011.

But now there isn't a dose of Inbetweeners to keep us going, the question every fan is asking is whether or not there will be an Inbetweeners sequel. At the time of writing, the co-creators and co-writers of the show, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, have neither confirmed nor denied the rumours that there will be a second film.

In September 2011, an 'unknown source' revealed to The Daily Mirror that the bosses on the show had confirmed there was to be a second film. They went onto explain that a second film was much more viable than a fourth series because the characters were getting older.

But Iain Morris, co-writer and co-creator of The Inbetweeners, quickly quashed rumours by Tweeting 'honestly, we haven't even talked about it. it's our first day in today. i've been drunk for a month.' To further address the rumours, he then went on to Tweet to Blake Harrison (who plays Neil Sutherland in the show) that 'you're not in it. we've filmed it. an 'insider' from 'the studio' told me', drawing attention to the ludicrous nature of the reports.

So unfortunately, as it stands, no sequel to The Inbetweeners Movie has been confirmed. But perhaps encouraging, neither has it been denied. Greg Davies who plays the sixth-form principle stated during an interview for his stand-up DVD, that if there was to be a movie, it wouldn't be motivated by money: 'I would imagine there'd be a lot of pressure on people if there's that amount of interest and financial backing. Knowing the writers, I don't think they would do something for those reasons. I think they would only put pen to paper if they thought it would be good. That's why it is good'. We think it'd be great, so go on Iain and Damon; make a sequel!
