The sound and songs of this reggae act are all courtesy of one particular creative genius, Winston Rodney. Whilst making ground breaking music incorporating reggae, dub and dance among other genres, some inspiration for the man behind the music came from two of his heroes, musician Bob Marley and activist Markus Garvey.

The 1975 offering 'Markus Garvey was obviously influenced by the albums namesake, and this release was the third album offered, but the first one released with Island Records. In Jamaica, Markus Garvey was a national hero in those days, and the single with the same name from this album gave Burning Spear a major hit.

'Dry and Heavy' was released in 1979 to a highly receptive fan base. The reggae act were now starting to make an impact overseas with their music, and during a show in London he was joined on stage by the highly respected reggae giants, Aswad. This encounter prompted the promise of a collaboration with Aswad on Rodney's next album.

The next album bought much more than a collaboration with Aswad. The band played backing for the whole album, and this combination of reggae royalty was received with acclaim. 'Social Living' was the seventh installment of the singer's discography.

Burning Spear vinyl should be treated with the respect that it rightfully deserves, these rare reggae masterpieces are no longer common and collectors should take heed if they haven't already. This Grammy award winning musical great is chiseled into the pantheons of musical history as a true legend.
