Custom Versus Factory Made Guitars

By Scott Scothern

Ok, so you want to buy a guitar. As you begin to look around you find that there are a bunch of different brands and models. You go to the local music stores and play as many models as you can. Some play and sound pretty good, some are inexpensive and some are expensive, but you wish this one had a little different trim, or this one had a little less radius on the neck.

Most stores will sell high end guitars, which sound great, but there are only a limited number of brands and models. All of these guitars are standard models that are sold to many customers. Although beautiful looking and sounding guitars, they are not unique.

Take a look at custom guitars. A custom guitar may be a little more expensive than the high end models at the music store, or not, but you can get exactly what you want. They are also usually high quality instruments.

Most custom guitar makers will meet with you when you contact them. They will sit down you or correspond with you and guide you through the many choices of woods, decorative trim, and options available. They will help you come up with your dream guitar.

If you would like your guitar to stand out, you can have the guitar builder further customize your guitar with inlays, or your initials. This sometimes will cost more, but often, is included in the cost. This can really make your guitar special.

There are many ways the guitar maker can personalize or customize your guitar. Some of these include the sound of the guitar. He can fine tune your guitar to have more volume in the bass register or to really stand out on the treble side. He can tap tune the top to get the most sustain he can from the woods.

If you have small hands, he can make the neck a little narrower, or make the radius (back of the neck profile) a little less thick to make it more comfortable. If you are in the market for a good quality unique guitar check out custom guitars.
