Western Art Is Still In Demand

By Mari Orr

Western art is a name that covers all the ways that artists and crafts people celebrate life in the old West. This genre covers all aspects of life on the farms and prairies of the 19th century. There are people in the country and the cities working on items that help people to remember an exciting period of American history.

There are many amateur and professional artists working exclusively on capturing moments in the lives of cowboys, cattle and horses under the wide blue skies. This art form is not restricted to paintings or etchings. Faithful reproductions of clothing, accessories, household goods, and advertising material are a major parts of cowboy memorabilia collections.

The items found in collections of cowboy artifacts include replica guns, holsters, gun belts and lawmen's badges. Less politically correct replica cigar store Indians, and advertisements for brothels and saloons. Every aspect of a cowboy's life is covered.

During the times of the opening up of the old West, storytellers such as Ned Buntline spun tall tales for readers back on the east coast. These stories are still of interest today, and are featured in collections of memorabilia. Accounts of famous battles and gunfights are also popular.

Collectors of memorabilia of the era of the old West are always searching for items to display in their homes. Other buyers of this kind of artifacts include film production companies and theater groups. Another group of people seeking such things are those whose stage re-enactments of historic events from the old West.

Whether it is for a play, a movie, a party or a museum, western art is extremely popular. There are even craftspeople who will make sheriff's badge with the name of your town engraved on it. If you go looking for these items in the many galleries and museums devoted to the Old West, do not forget to look for custom made artworks that have been aged or made with aged materials.
