Disney is ramping up its digital campaign for Pixars next animated film release called Brave with a cheeky advertisement illustrating some of the attire in the movie.
Brave occurs in 10th century Scotland and follows Merida (told by Kelly Macdonald), a talented archer who is determined to challenge customs and customs by taking destiny into her very own hands.
As far as Pixar films go, Brave is the first movie from the studio with a central female protagonist. This poses a challenge of sorts to the marketing specialists at Disney and Pixar because focusing too much on the female aspect of the story can shut out the young male audiences that Pixar also wants to attract.
That's why it makes sense that for the most recent featurette, a pretend ad for kilts, Disney goes after humor, not girlishness.
The studio has been busy releasing featurettes, behind-the-scenes photos and other tidbits across YouTube and Facebook. The Facebook Page for Brave has more than 125,000 Likes as well as a bunch of pictures, videos and links to programs.
In the rough and mysterious Highlands of Scotland, stories of paranormal legends and epic battles have been passed through the generations since ancient times. Disney Pixar's "Brave" a new story, joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. The film examines the men wearing kilts and kilt hose.
"Brave" tells the story of Merida, a skilled archer and impetuous child of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own trail in life, Merida defies an age-old custom holy to the chaotic lords of the land: enormous Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and bad tempered Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida's actions coincidentally unleash chaos and ire in the dominion, and when she turns to an eccentric old Sensible Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she's granted a unlucky wish. The following hazard forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravado so as to undo a beastly curse before it is too late.
Directed by Mark Andrews ("The Incredibles," "Ratatouille," "John Carter of Mars") and Brenda Chapman ("The Lion King," "Prince of Egypt"), and produced by Katherine Sarafian ("Lifted," "The Incredibles"), "Brave" is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and the signature Pixar humor enjoyed by audiences of all ages.
Disney Pixar's Brave is released in theatres on 17 Aug 2012, and will likely be presented in Disney Digital 3D in select cinemas.
