Though we can say that music has been around even before civilization, we would have to face the development in the variety of music and the current genres. Power metal band, grunge and rap are often considered distasteful amongst many for it is said to have negative influence of the listeners and promote inappropriate behaviors.
The choice of good music is very much subjective and it is dependent on however the listener would perceive towards it. Music speaks off experience and compared to the softer version of music, such as blues and jazz, heavier beats such as rap and metal do seem rather harsh. But this comparison would not justify the truth that music can be a negative thing.

The young age is one to seek out an identity for your own self therefore the personal music choice would speak of their thoughts and believes.
