Review of the Panasonic DMP-BDT 210 Blu-ray DVD Player

By Robert Mann

Die hard fans of the silver disc era are happy to see "the hottest thing out there" when it comes to a bookshelf-sized DVD player from Panasonic. The Panasonic DMP-BDT 210 has been recognized by CNET as an Editor's Choice Award and grabs the No. 2 Spot for the Best Player for 2011. Even digital video streaming has to face the competition, because Blue-Ray still secures its spot when it comes to outstanding video quality.

The Panasonic DMP-BDT210 Blu-ray player offers excellent video quality. It will play regular Blu-ray videos as well as 3D formats. The DMP-BDT210 has built in WiFi and includes streaming services from Netflix, Amazon Instant, Vudu, Pandora, and CinemaNow. It has fast, easy navigation that even the most technically challenged person can use. The DMP-BDT210 has a touch free sensor to open and close the disc tray. This is helpful when you want to avoid leaving greasy popcorn fingerprints on your playing. Simply swipe your hand over the sensor and the tray slides out, swipe a second time to close and load the disc.

Another plus feature of the Panasonic DMP-BDT 210 is its Skype Integration where users can take video calls from friends and family all over the globe. Users can also leave messages telling the caller to call back soon.

The Panasonic DMP-BDT 210 looks very simple with a glossy black panel, and it occupies less space. File sharing is made easier as it can accommodate an SD card slot, and a USB slot in the front. The remote has dedicated buttons, and the player can be controlled using an iPhone app, but this function has limitations.

Although this player has overall streaming, it misses out on some high-profile services like Hulu Plus and MLB TV. It lacks onboard memory for accessing BD Live features. For a 3D player to be able to deliver great, crisp images, you will need a 3D display to enhance your home theater experience.

Moderately priced at around $170 the Panasonic DMP-BDT 210 Blu-ray player is a good choice for a movie buff, and consistently ranks among the best Blu-ray DVD players. Any home theater experience would be improved by the crisp images delivered from this player. It even has a few added bonuses. It offers several options for video and media streaming, but not as many as some other players, although the ones that it does include are excellent. Overall the Panasonic DMP-BDT 210 is a good splurge, one which you will appreciate each time you sit down to enjoy the latest blockbuster. Just don't forget the popcorn.
