What Part Plays Gold In Movies?

By Jack Wogan

Underneath the idea in every story and movie are hidden our deepest dreams, desires and beliefs. Gold is an object of desire ever since the beginnings of human kind, that is why its presence guarantees the success of these means of entertainment. They can show us how people succumb to its fascination, destroying their lives; they illustrate the way it was seen by ancient cultures as a divine metal; sometimes they prove us how a certain amount of it can bring excitement and joy in a person's world.

The ultimate in matter of amount of gold present in a movie is the animation "The road to El Dorado". This is not just about an artifact, or even about a gold castle, but about an entire city made of gold. Strange legends have appeared when the New World was discovered. Among them the one about this city haunted the imagination of daring explorers for years. The heroes of this movie are very different from them, as their main features are not heroism and a bright mind, but rather a healthy sense of humor. They take you along in their trip through a series of uncontrollable events, which lead them like a roller coaster, to the very heart of the dreamed city.

Very often, amateurs take pyrite for gold. That is why this mineral was called "fool's gold". The same name was given to a romantic comedy where a divorced couple is reunited because of their common passion for finding lost treasures. As the two start connecting clues, they also rediscover their love, while the characters around them make their lives more interesting by helping or by crossing them in their attempt to find ancient swords and jewels.

Pirate stories and movies are always associated with gold. The series "Pirates of the Caribbean" begins with a movie about it. The crew of the Black Pearl is under an ancient curse, drawn to them by their stealing Aztec gold. Their desire to escape from it triggers the entire action. This story is a good example of how the fascination for gold is often seen as an evil temptation, punished accordingly by unnatural forces.

Gold is difficult to obtain both in movies and in real life. Despite the saying that "fortune doesn't bring happiness", the doubt still exists, since so many people are tempted to chase for precious items whenever they can. Whether it will make you happier or not, buying gold will always guarantee you a sound sleep in times of economical instability, because it offers you a valid trade instrument.
