Jimi Hendrix And His Guitar Effects Pedals Aided Him Create Truly Unique Tunes

By Craig Czartoryska

Before taking a look at Jimi Hendrix and His Guitar Effects Pedals, one should understand exactly why he is considered a godlike guitarist, genius and poet. To begin with, Jimi has always played music in a very different and unique and unconventional manner. The way that he played music was not like normal guitarists played their music and in fact even till today few if any guitarist has been able to match his style of playing. He therefore has maintained his position as a very influential rock guitarist of his time.

He learnt to play the guitar on his own and also imbibed a lot from practicing the works of Robert Johnson and the legendary B. B. King. Every time that he toured he took along both his Marshall amps and Fender Stratocaster and took them to the limits. He was also one of the first guitarists to make use of guitar effects. The Vox wah soon became an integral part of his music.

If you are looking at Jimi Hendrix and His Guitar Effects Pedals, you will find that he also made extensive use of the fuzzbox. With this device, he could synthesize the 2nd note so that it sounded one octave higher than what he was playing with his fingers. Fire and the very popular song, Purple Haze each were songs that he played with the help of the fuzzbox.

Another piece of gear used by Jimi Hendrix, the Univox Vibe was widely used by the great guitarist throughout his career. This was an important part of Jimi Hendrix and His Guitar Effects Pedals. He also used the Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face which was featured on the first album released by Hendrix.

Hendrix also used (on occasion) the Octavia ahead of the Fuzz Face and this helped him to produce higher octaves that would be mixed in and which produced sounds that were more aggressive. He also made ample us of the Wah pedal and this was used on his first record album called Axis Bold as Love.

Jimi Hendrix was and still remains the god of guitar. His performances never failed to evoke frenzied responses from his fans. He has performed variously at Woodstock, Isle of Wight Festival and Monterrey Pop Festival. Each time he took to the stage he left an indelible mark on rock music. His unique playing techniques were a far cry from what regular musicians were used to.

It is not surprising that he won plenty of rock music awards both in his lifetime and also posthumously.
