Things To Consider When Buying Better Vitamins

By Elinor Tran

Those without organic diets can have the most balanced meals and still fall short of their bodies' nutritional needs. Even people who keep an incredibly healthy lifestyle complete with organic produce, grains and good proteins can receive some benefit from supplements. Not all vitamins made in USA are equal, though.

When it comes to supplements, it's never best to choose the cheapest product. A lower price reflects a poorer product. For example, the nutrient is unlikely to come from a natural, live food source, which will make it a less effective supplement.

The type of binder used to make the pill is crucial. Organic binders are all important because they are what the body can absorb. Synthetic ones such as magnesium stearate aren't absorbed by the time they leave the body. The nutrient goes, with the pill, into the plumbing system without doing anyone any good.

A supplement made entirely organically isn't necessarily the best choice either. While organic binders are crucial, the actual vitamin within sometimes needs to be synthetic to be of better quality. Vitamins D and E in synthetic form, however, are entirely useless.

Nutrients incorporated into tablets from natural food sources are virtually always preferable. The body is far more capable of absorbing these at cellular level. It's in the cells that these nutrients are needed. Vitamin E is a more complex nutrient. It doesn't work as a supplement as well as in food form. A cereal fortified with it works far better than any pill.

Gelatin introduces a problem in that light becomes a factor. Light kills some nutrients very quickly. Beta carotene is one that should hardly ever be taken as a gelatin capsule.

Some manufacturers are able to use gelatin for beta carotene effectively, but they're few and far between. Vegetarians should realize, too, that gelatin comes from an animal source. When choosing vitamins made in usa a rule of thumb is that organic is best but food is better.
