How To Amp Up Your DJ Vibe

By Claudia Campos

If you want to be successful in this line of work, you not only have to love music, but you have to find your own special DJ vibe. Without this you will be just someone playing music. What makes you special will be your personality. This is not always as easy as you may think. It is something that you will most likely have to work hard on.

Ideally the person who hired you has seen you work and feels that you will be a good fit. Though, it does sometimes happen that once you get to a venue, things have changed. The crowd you expected may not respond as well to your usual style. While this is not a common occurrence, being aware and prepared for it will help you to remain calm and unruffled if it ever does.

Break out of your shell. You must learn to be outgoing. If you are naturally introverted this can be difficult. However, it can be done. You should work on this daily. Try talking to people and being friendly. It can be difficult at first, but as with many things, it will get easier the more you do it.

Adjust your attitude to the age of the guests. While teens and young adults may be up on a lot of the popular slang, older guests may not. If the party is for older guests, remember this. You do not want them to be confused and unsure about what you are saying or what you mean.

Develop a persona. While you of course should be yourself, you must be yourself only more so. Louder, more extroverted and more entertaining. Determine who you want to be and work to become that person when you have a gig.Do not try to change yourself too much or go to far outside of your comfort zone. That may lead you to come across as fake which will turn people off.

By keeping your DJ Vibe in tune with the events you are hired for, you will please not only those who hire you, but the audience as well. This could mean more jobs for you. Be yourself and have fun, but do it with the guest's and host's enjoyment in mind always.
