The Allure Of Wooden Rocking Chairs

By Thelma Kent

There are so many children's stories and films that feature wooden rocking chairs and all too often the reason for this is overlooked. There is something naturally quaint and inspirational about them and seeing a high quality, polished one will transport anyone back to their childhood, even if they never owned one.

In theory all that they are is somewhere to sit. But it is what happens when someone sits in them that is so magical. Story telling is their true purpose and in films, paintings and real life they have always represented a place to sit and learn about far away lands and mystical tales. For those that have never experienced this special treat it is highly recommended.

Picture an elderly lady sitting comfortably in the chair with a child playing happily by her feet. As soon as the child is swept up from the ground and placed happily in the lady's lap the magic can begin. Who knows where the tale will take them or where it will end, but it is sure to be a magical ride.

Both old and new versions can be found the world over and the magic is understood internationally. As long as it is comfortable and has a steady rock it is ideal for storytelling. This can be the perfect gift for any generation as everyone enjoys hearing stories.

The allure of a simple story and a comfortable seat is overlooked these days in favour of more exciting technology and games. This shouldn't be the case as children learn a great deal from simply listening to a story in the arms of a loved one. It is also a wonderful method for teaching patience and the value of calmness.

With the growing popularity of vintage items and lifestyles wooden rocking chairs are increasing in price as they once again become desirable items. So root out an old forgotten one from the attic and spend a little time returning it to its former glory. This is an item that should never be forgotten.
